          El duelo México vs Filipinas en los últimos tiempos se ha convertido en un clasico con combates muy atractivos por la forma de boxear tan aguerrida de los púgiles de estos países, recordamos que la última derrota de o8220;Tysono8221; Márquez fue ante el filipino Nonito Donaire hace una año.

          • Gamboa en septiembre, pero ¿Contra quién?

            A pesar de que es el mejor boxeador cubano del momento, Yuriorkis Gamboa no ha logrado cimentar un nombre que o8220;meta públicoo8221; en la taquilla fuera de la Florida: no ha enfrentado a boxeadores de verdadero atractivo, capaces de vender al precio y a la cantidad que contente a todos.
            El viernes pasado, durante la cartelera del Miami Dade County Auditorio, tuve la oportunidad de saludar al veloz pugilista antillano y de preguntarle por la próxima pelea que, según sus palabras, o8220;será en septiembre, pero el contrario me lo están buscandoo8221;, quiere decir que se está haciendo difícil encontrarle un oponente; porque, como que al cubano lo despojaron de la faja del AMB, pues no es fácil presentarlo como alguien que, además de no ser un o8220;elegidoo8221; de ningún organismo, no tiene o8220;doteo8221; para el compromiso.
            Este mes fue ranqueado # 2 de la Asociación Mundial, que tiene como plato fuerte la pelea Barros-Caballero, inexplicablemente aceptada para Argentina por los apoderados del panameño, máxime cuando el Cuartel General del organismo funciona en el Istmo.
            Sin embargo, se comenta que el oriental pudiera estar enfrentando a Daniel Ponce de León para cumplir con el compromiso de un pleito pendiente con HBO, a pesar de que este púgil es un peligro por su pegada y porque, si Gamboa le ganara, significaría poco para consolidar su carrera, pero, si pierde, retrocede quién sabe hasta donde. Juanma López ni tiene fecha para la revancha con Salido, ¿Entonces?
            Se comenta que el cubano está teniendo problemas con el peso de 126 libras y que están pensando en subirlo; de hecho, si aparece el dinero, tal vez el cubano esté peleando contra alguien de las 130, posiblemente, en el propio septiembre.
            Hasta ahora, solo hay posibilidades especulativas con un detalle interesante: ya no es campeón, por lo tanto no es interesante para una cadena como HBO presentarlo sin el respaldo de una faja y, como que no es un nombre grande en las carteleras, que equilibre la inversión y deje la ganancia, pues debe estar en la cola para disputarse lo poco que dejan nombres como Pacquiao y Mayweathers jr es decir, limosnas.

              • Steward explains why Haye is in trouble against Klitschko

                HAMBURG, Germany -- Trainer Emanuel Steward was relaxed as he sank into a plush leather chair in the lobby of a five-star hotel here. It had nothing to do with the serene setting of the InterContinental, which overlooks the picturesque Alster Lake in one of Germanyo8217;s most-beautiful cities. Rather, Steward, a natural worrier, is at peace because he is supremely confident about the prospects of his fighter o8211; heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko -- against David Haye on Saturday.
                o8220;Honestly,o8221; he said in a soft voice, almost embarrassed at being so bold, o8220;I dono8217;t think ito8217;ll go much past four rounds.o8221;
                Steward chatted for about an hour with RingTV.com, explaining why Klitschkko will beat Haye at what is expected to be an Imtech Arena soccer stadium packed with about 50,000 fans of the Germany-based Ukrainian giant.
                Klitschko has obvious advantages in size and experience o8211; he has taken part in 18 world title fights, Haye five o8211; that should play a role in their long-awating showdown.
                However, Steward focused on three basic aspects of his fightero8217;s game he believes will make this a one-sided fight: Footwork he compared to that of Manny Pacquiao, the big mano8217;s now-legendary left jab and a right he said rivals that of any fighter heo8217;s ever worked with.
                Steward said he cano8217;t understand why observers dono8217;t recognize Klitschkoo8217;s ability to move his feet effectively, which he explained is the most-important element to any boxero8217;s repertoire.
                Klitschko, he said, defetly uses his feet to get into punching range o8211; relentlessly cutting off the ring o8211; but also uses them to step quickly backward when his opponent attacks and then, with his prey off balance, counter punch. Either way the opponent loses.
                o8220;Tommy Morrison beat George Foreman so easily because every time George came in, Tommy just moved to the side,o8221; Steward said. o8220;It was so simple. Tommy would just make George miss completely and then BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!. Michael Moorer and other opponents blocked Georgeo8217;s punches. If you make someone miss, they lose their balance. If you block punches, you let them keep their balance.
                o8220;The only fighters in boxing (today) that do this effectively off the top of my head are Manny Pacquiao and Wladimir. People dono8217;t see Wladimiro8217;s footwork. That amazes me.o8221;
                How is Hayeo8217;s footwork?
                Steward got up from his chair and stood with his feet wide apart, catching the attention of curious hotel guests nearby who would receive their first lesson in proper balance. The trainer threw a right hand and then stumbled to make a point.
                o8220;Haye gets out of balance when he throws his right,o8221; Steward said. o8220;Thato8217;s why he never throws combinations, because heo8217;s off balance all the time. Heo8217;s too far apart and flat footed. Wladimir is always on his toes.o8221;
                So how was an unbalanced Haye able to beat heavyweights such as Nikolai Valuev and John Ruiz?
                o8220;Because his opponents stand like that,o8221; said Steward, standing upright with his hands covering his face. o8220;Heo8217;s more explosive than those guys. He better be careful who heo8217;s fighting this time, though. In his mind Wladimir is a stand-up, robotic guy. He doesno8217;t see the footwork, how he cuts off the ring, shortens the distance.
                o8220;If he is comparing Wladimir to Valuev and Ruiz, heo8217;s going to have a problem.o8221;
                Klitschkoo8217;s jab is no secret. It is like a moving, rock-hard wall his opponents almost invariably cano8217;t find a way around.
                Steward said it isno8217;t thrown in the same way each time, though. Sometimes it is predictable, coming straight at you. Sometimes he throws it out of rhythm. And sometimes heo8217;ll throw a half jab first o8211; causing you to flinch o8211; and then come at you with full force.
                The idea is to keep the opponent guessing.
                o8220;I see people get frustrated with his jab,o8221; Steward said. o8220;They cano8217;t figure it out. The opponent goes back to his corner and they say, o8216;Why are you getting his with those jabs, man? We worked on that in camp.o8217; They all have problems with it.
                o8220;The strategy for this fight is real simple o8230; create foot pressure, take his space away, like Wladimir did against Eddie Chambers. Cut him off, cut him off, cut him off. Create tension. Dono8217;t give him time to relax. Shoot the jab, shoot the jab, shoot the jab and eventually youo8217;ll get caught with a big shot.o8221;
                Klitschko -- 6-foot-6½ (199cm) and about 245 pounds (111 kilos) o8211; is a big, immensely strong man. His right biceps is the size of a basketball.
                Thus, ito8217;s no great surprise that Steward compares his punching power to that of giant-sized former protégé Lennox Lewis and most people believe he hits harder than Mike Tyson ever did.
                The effectiveness of Klitschkoo8217;s right goes beyond strength, though. Speed (underrated) and positioning of his glove also play a role.
                Steward said more than one opponent has told him after the fact that they were surprised at Klitschkoo8217;s hand speed, another example of his surprising athleticism given his size.
                The right also reaches its target quickly because of where it starts. Steward put his right fist against his ear, a typical starting position for an orthodox boxer. Then he moved the fist to his chin, about six inches closer to the opponent.
                Thato8217;s where Klitschkoo8217;s right starts, he said. Steward believes the six inches can decide a fight.
                o8220;I ran into Chris Byrd after Wladimir beat him the second time and he said, o8216;My dad and everyone says he beat me because he is bigger than me. The first fight, maybe. The last fight he beat me because I couldno8217;t see his punches.o8217; Chris got knocked down the first time and asked his corner, o8216;What knocked me down?o8217; They said a right hand. He never saw it. He keeps it in such a position and throws it so straight that you hardly see it.
                o8220;You get so busy watching for the jab and all of a sudden youo8217;re on the floor. Wladimir pushes the button on the missle and it goes right to the target.o8221;
                Thato8217;s what Steward is convinced will happen against Haye on Saturday.
                Klitschko will use his feet to move in and out of danger. Heo8217;ll batter the Briton with his confusing and relentless jab. And heo8217;ll fire big rights that Haye will have trouble tracking, rights that will eventually spell the underdog's doom.
                It all seems so simple.
                o8220;It is,o8221; Steward said. o8220;Thato8217;s why Io8217;m so comfortable, so relaxed about this fight.o8221;

                          Hombre ni tanto ni tan poco, que las mma no llegan al nivel de relevancia del boxeo a nivel mundial, pero los entrenamientos a puertas abiertas también se petan de periodistas eh?
