After weeks of speculation, Fedor Emelianenko officially has an opponent for June 21.
Emelianenko (33-4, 1 NC) will face three-time UFC heavyweight title contender Pedro Rizzo (19-9), M-1 Global Director of Operation Evgeni Kogan announced early Friday morning.
The pair will meet under the M-1 Global banner on June 21 at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, promotion officials confirmed to CageReligion.com on Friday.
After suffering three consecutive losses under the Strikeforce banner, Emelianenko recently got back on the winning track with back-to-back victories over Jeff Monson and Satoshi Ishii. In his most recent outing, the former PRIDE Fighting Championships heavyweight champion scored a first-round knockout victory over Ishii at DREAM Fight for Japan 2012.
Rizzo, meanwhile, hasn't competed since July of 2010 where he earned a first-round technical knockout victory over Ken Shamrock at Impact FC 2. The victory marked his third-straight, having also defeated veterans Jeff Monson and Gary Goodridge in recent years.
