  • M-1 Challenge: Emelianenko/ S. Korea vs Finland/ Russia vs Japan

Aleksander Emelianenko (13-3-0) destroyed his opponent, Silvao Santos (1-1-0), from Brazil, in one of the super-fights of M-1 Challenge, held in Russian soil and featuring clashes between the South Korean and the Finnish squad and Russia versus Japan. Aleksander appeared in great shape and annihilated the Brazilian unexperient newcomer with vicious strikes, during the first round. It wasn't the best match-making but the Russian did what he was supposed to and continues improving his record. In other super fight action, Roman Zentsov (17-12-0), another Russian diehard fan favorite, had much more trouble with his opponent because he faced Daniel Tabera (9-1-2), a Spanish undefeated fighter whose ranks are growing. Zentsov took a decision victory after the second round's bell. In other international action Amar Suloev (24-7-0), from Armenia, got an impressive first round TKO victory against Jacek Buczko (11-4-0), a Polish talented fighter. In team action, Finland overcame a weak South Korean side featuring fighters with inexpressive fight records, so Niko Puhakka (11-6-0), Janne Tulirinta (7-2-0), Toni Valtonen (15-7-0) and Jarno Nurminen (2-1-0) all got victories, the only defeated member of the team was Lucio Linhares (7-3-0), a Brazilian athlete based in Finland, that was knocked out by Hyun Gyu Lim (2-1-1), in the first round. Team Japan scored a hard 3-2 victory against team Russian. In opposition to what South Korea did, the team from the land of the rising sun gathered a cast of experienced fighters and Pride veteran Daisuke Nakamura (13-9-0), Ken Hamamura (14-4-4) and Yuta Watanabe (8-1-3) gave their side the victory by winning their bouts. The Russian reaction was lead by Besiki Gerenava (5-0-0) and Akhmet Sultanov (2-0-0). Perhaps Russia could have chosen a stronger armada for this competition, especially in their own homeland.
